# How to create a pie chart in Excel

A pie chart allows users to see the data results easier, as it is a graphical representation of data. The data you have entered in your Excel sheet represents symbols such as slices in a pie chart. You will learn how to insert a pie chart to Excel in three different ways. This article will also show you how to create a 2d or 3d pie chart in Excel step by step.

## Three options to create a pie chart in Excel

Use a pie chart when you want to show a proportion of a whole. Especially when the total sum of your data equals 100% and if you don’t have a lot of data. Otherwise, the slices on the pie chart will look thin and unclear.

There are three options to insert a pie chart in Excel. Before you start to insert a chart, you need to have entered data in your Excel sheet. In this example, the data we use shows how many people like the color red.

### 1 – Quick Analysis

Select the data entered in your Excel sheet in cell range A1:C2. You can see that a little tool called **Quick Analysis** shows up next to it. If you can’t see anything happen, you can press **Ctrl + Q**, and Quick Analysis will open automatically.

In the tool Quick Analysis, you should choose **Charts **> Then click on **Pie**. The pie chart will be available to you.

### 2 – Pie chart figure

First, **select **the data you have entered > Click on **Insert **in the top bar > Go to Charts and select the **pie chart** **figure** > Then you **choose **one of these pie charts, as shown in the picture below. In this example, you know how to create a 2d pie chart in Excel.

If you click on **More Pie Charts** below, which is highlighted, then a new box opens called **Insert Chart**, which you can see in option 3.

### 3 – Recommended Charts

First, you **select **the data you have entered > Go to **Insert **> Click on **Recommended Charts**.

**1**: In the box **Insert Chart**, you can see all the Recommended Charts. Sometimes you can’t see the charts you like to use. Therefore you should click on **All Charts**.

**2**: Then choose **Pie **on the left side of the box.

**3**: Now, you can see the different pie charts at the top of the box. **Click **on any** pie chart** to see the preview below.

**4**: Select any pie chart you want to use.

**5**: Click **OK**.
